Papendrecht Bridge closed: park on the Dordrecht side

Anyone who normally drives to Dordrecht via the Papendrecht Bridge will have to take a detour via the A15 and A16 for the time being. The bridge has been closed since 17 July 2026 and will remain so until 21 April 2027. Rijkswaterstaat advises allowing for an extra 30 to 60 minutes’ journey time during rush hour.

For those who regularly need to travel to Dordrecht from Papendrecht or Sliedrecht, there is also another option.

Parking at the Kerkeplaat
Multibox operates a car park at the Kerkeplaat in Dordrecht where spaces are still available. This is also exactly where the free ferry from Papendrecht docks. You can therefore leave your car on the Dordrecht side and cross over on the ferry yourself. The ferry runs daily from 06:00 to 23:00 and every ten minutes during rush hour. After the crossing, you can get into your own car at Kerkeplaat and drive on to your workplace or appointment in Dordrecht. At the end of the day, you can return your car to Multibox and take the ferry back to Papendrecht. This way, you don’t have to drive via the diversion route every day.

Also for business owners
This can also be practical for self-employed people and small business owners. Do you use a van, trailer or equipment mainly in Dordrecht? Then you can park it on the Dordrecht side, so that it remains accessible without having to drive via the A15 and A16 every time.
